Controlling Water Leakage and Wastage

How to avoid  Leakage in Water Line

Some of the following actions will be useful in controlling the leakage and wastage.

During construction:

• metering of all consumers’ connections,
• introduction of realistic tariffs,
• use of non- corrodible quality materials for house service connections.

During Operation and Maintenance

• checking domestic water meters every year and recalibrate to keep the error within 3%,
• replacing the water meters once in 6 years,
• repairing and replacing consumers’ leaky service pipes free of charge wherever necessary,
• visits to large consumers’ premises and audit their water usage and identify the source of wastage,
• legal action for illegal connections,
• establishing regular program for leak detection survey, and
• Intensive publicity campaign on conservation of water.
