Some metals compounds level only are essential to live for animal, Plant and human being.  Out of that  metal compounds are  toxic to aquatic organisms may find their way into municipal sewerage through industrial discharges and present in significant concentrations in wastewater.

Most toxic Metal in sewage :

  1. chromium ( Cr )
  2. Lead ( Pb )
  3. Zinc ( Zn )
  4. Mercury( Hg )
  5. copper ( Cu )
  6. cyanide ( CN ) and etc.,

Determination of these metals assumes importance if such wastewater is to be treated by biological process or disposed of in to stream or land.
